Release Highlights
Introducing Packs (BETA)
Group related plays into one ordered Pack, choose the version of each play, and then download, validate or deploy the whole set in a single action. Packs show up in Explore, in search and in your profile, and the activity of each play shows which pack it was used through. Packs now have versions of their own: change the list of plays on a published pack and a draft is prepared while the published pack stays live. Packs are available only if your Playground admin enables them. The feature is in BETA, so please try it out and share feedback. Details are here.
Draft and Live Versions
Every version of a play or pack now has its own status. You can keep working on a newer draft while the live version stays published for everyone else, then validate and publish the draft when it is ready. The Versions tab shows the status of each version, who published it and when, and lets you roll back. Read more in Draft and live versions.
Approvals on Versions
When approvals are on, reviewers now review a specific version. The reviewer sees the pending version, who submitted it and when, and can approve it or send it back with a comment. If a newer version is pushed while a review is open, the older one can no longer be approved or published by mistake, and nobody can approve their own submission.
Insights
A new Insights card on plays and packs points out what needs attention: the draft you are viewing against the live version, highlights of what changed, review requests and results, and files that are common to plays in a pack. Two new hints are for Salesforce plays: a suggestion to move from the older src folder layout to the source structure, and a warning when the API version is 5 or more releases old. The ? icon on the card opens the Insights guide that lists every insight.
Changes Tab (New)
A new Changes tab on plays shows which files changed between a version and the one before it, so you can review what is going out before you deploy or download. When a draft is in progress, the owner and reviewers see the live version compared with the draft.
A Better My Work Page
Your profile now has a clearer My Work page. Switch between Plays and Packs, filter by status with chips that show how many records are in each one, and load more as you scroll. Packs and plays now list and filter correctly. See User Profile.
Improvements and Fixes
- Saving a published pack creates one draft that is edited in place, instead of a new version on each save.
- The version of a play added to a pack is now pre-selected with its latest version.
- Activity for a play shows exactly which version was changed, published, rolled back or reviewed, without extra "publish" entries.
- Reports and dashboards keep working with the new version model.
- Status, validation and publish dates of a record now follow its versions everywhere, including search, lists, notifications and the API.
- Fixed review tips showing to people who cannot approve, and names shown in full on review messages.
Upgrading
- Nothing to do. Existing plays and packs keep their live version and status. Older versions that were published before this release show no publish date, so rollback to a published version works for versions published from now on, plus the current live one.
