Connecting Claude to Playground MCP

This guide walks through connecting Claude Desktop to the Playground MCP server. Before you start, make sure:

  • MCP is enabled for your domain (Control Panel → Advanced Features) and your role (Control Panel → Roles). See Overview for details.
  • You have copied your MCP token from Profile → App Passwords. The token already includes the required Bearer prefix — paste it exactly as copied, don't modify it.

Step 1: Install Claude Desktop

Download and install Claude Desktop if you haven't already, then sign in.

Step 2: Open the MCP Configuration File

Open Claude's MCP configuration file:

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

If the file doesn't exist, create it.

Step 3: Add the Playground MCP Server

Add the following entry to the mcpServers object:

Replace <your copied MCP token> with the token you copied from Profile → App Passwords. Keep the Bearer prefix exactly as it appears in the copied token.

Step 4: Restart Claude

Restart Claude Desktop completely. Once it reopens, the Playground MCP server should appear as connected.

Step 5: Start Creating Plays

Ask Claude to create a play, for example:

"Help me create a Salesforce play that validates account phone numbers on insert/update using ACME_ prefix."

If the connection fails, check:

  • The MCP token was copied from Profile → App Passwords and pasted exactly as-is (including the Bearer prefix).
  • MCP is enabled for your domain and role (you'll otherwise get: "MCP access isn't enabled for your account yet. Please contact your system admin to get it turned on.").
  • The configuration file is valid JSON (no trailing commas, matching quotes).
